SaskTel Indigenous Youth Awards 2021, this year’s event will be showcased on SaskTel website in May 2021 with a virtual video recognizing this year’s nominees and Award recipients.

The SaskTel Indigenous Youth Awards of Excellence celebrate outstanding achievement in our young people. The Wicihitowin Foundation with our Title Sponsor SaskTel established the awards in 1997 with the support of the public, government, and private sector.

Award categories

The SaskTel Indigenous Youth Awards of Excellence recognize youth achievement in 5 categories. Please note: Individual nominations only accepted. No group nominations.

Outstanding achievement

This award recognizes a youth who:

  • Lead a balanced lifestyle based on a foundation of strong cultural and spiritual values
  • Show exceptional academic success
  • Remain physically active
  • Demonstrate leadership
  • Inspire, support, and respect others with honour and dignity, education, or career goals

Leadership

This award honours a youth who:

  • Inspires and motivates others through actions and solutions
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and respects diverse cultures
  • Supports others
  • Shows academic success
  • Pursues education or career goal

Education

This award honours a youth who:

  • Shows exceptional academic success
  • Maintains a grade average of 80 percent or higher
  • Demonstrates clear post-secondary education and career goals
  • Shows leadership in extracurricular activities

Community service

This award recognizes a youth who:

  • Shows concern for others in the community
  • Generously gives their time and energy promoting the well being of others
  • Achieves academic success

Culture

This award recognizes a youth who:

  • Promotes Indigenous values and language in school and the community
  • Champions all Indigenous traditional dance, song, and storytelling

Nominate Process?

  • Self-Nominate by filling out the nomination form
  • Of First Nations, Metis, or Inuit ancestry
  • Between 14 and 18 years of age by June 30, 2021
  • A resident of Saskatchewan and a registered student
  • 2 references required and they will be contacted
  • Able to demonstrate outstanding commitment and/or ability in one of the 5 award categories
  • No group nominations will be accepted
  • A completed nomination form that is on this website
  • Nomination deadline: April 30th, 2021
    • An autobiography completed by the nominated individual that explains how they fit the criteria of the particular award category. This autobiography must include goals, objective
