Visual art gives students opportunities to express ideas, explore their creativity, and connect learning with culture, identity, land, family, and community.
At ADEA, student art can be more than something displayed on a wall. Through painting, drawing, and traditional crafts, students can share how they see the world around them, celebrate creativity, and explore connections to Denesuline culture in meaningful and personal ways.
Art provides space for students to explore who they are and what is important to them. Student work may be inspired by culture, language, family, stories, experiences, and community.
The land and northern communities can provide powerful inspiration for visual art. Students can use colour, shape, texture, and materials to express their relationship with the places and people around them.
Creating art encourages imagination, observation, patience, problem-solving, and self-expression. Every artwork represents a student's own creative process and perspective.

Traditional Crafts
Creating through culture and learning
Traditional crafts offer students a meaningful way to learn through creativity, patience, observation, and hands-on experience. Projects such as beading give students opportunities to work carefully with colour, pattern, materials, and design while developing skills that grow through practice and attention to detail.
For many students, creating traditional crafts can also be a way to explore connections to Denesųłiné culture, family, community, and identity. The process of making can create space for learning, sharing, conversation, and reflection. Each project is unique, allowing students to express their own creativity while participating in learning that is connected to cultural knowledge and community experiences.
Beading projects encourage students to slow down, focus, and take pride in each step of the creative process. Choosing colours, arranging patterns, and bringing a design together requires patience and care. As students develop their skills, they can see their ideas take shape through their own hands, building confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
